Key functions of the National Center for AIDS Prevention:
 

  • implementing HIV surveillance, studying and analyzing the HIV epidemic trends over time
  • making HIV final diagnosis, AIDS clinical and laboratory diagnosis in the Republic of Armenia
  • follow up of patients with HIV, providing them with antiretroviral treatment, with prevention and treatment of opportunistic infections, providing patients with HIV and AIDS with specialized medical care
  • developing information/education materials on prevention of HIV and AIDS and AIDS-associated diseases
  • participating in the process of control over the activities carried out by state and private health care institutions performing HIV laboratory testing in the Republic of Armenia, licensed in the order defined by the country existing legislation
  • training personnel on HIV prevention and diagnostics
  • providing psychosocial and legal counseling to people living with HIV and their family members  
  • organizing and carrying out lectures, seminars and trainings on current issues of HIV/AIDS
  • providing HIV counseling and testing to the key populations at higher risk
  • organizing national and international conferences, seminars, trainings, discussions on HIV and AIDS and AIDS-associated diseases and participating in those activities
  • conducting scientific and practical research on HIV/AIDS prevention and AIDS-associated diseases
  • sharing information on HIV and AIDS prevalence according to the order defined by the international agreements entered into by the Republic of Armenia
  • collaborating with international organizations and NGOs functioning in the field of HIV/AIDS.
